Part 3: How DSCSA Impacts Authorized Healthcare Dispensers
The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) is a critical piece of legislation aimed at enhancing pharmaceutical supply chain security. Its compliance requirements came into full effect in November 2023.
Pharmacists and pharmacy staff play an essential role in the implementation of serialization and traceability measures. They do more than just dispense medications; they are the gatekeepers of drug authenticity, ensuring each product’s legitimacy before it reaches the patient. This responsibility then extends to a broad range of healthcare professionals, including physicians, clinical pharmacists, respiratory therapists (RTs), nurses, physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs). Each of these professionals must also understand the implications of the DSCSA for medication safety. This collaborative effort between all healthcare professionals is necessary to ensure patients receive medications that are not only effective, but genuine and secure.
In this third installment of our webinar series, Dr. Valerie Bandy will discuss the impact of the DSCSA on authorized healthcare dispenser roles and responsibilities, and will recommend strategies to effectively comply with DSCSA requirements in healthcare.
What you’ll learn:
- The crucial role of cross-collaboration, effective communication and proactive planning.
- How integrating supply chain management advancements safeguards the pharmaceutical industry and patient well-being.
- The importance of enhanced traceability and integrity of medications from manufacturers to dispensers to patients.
